Blind Ambition

9001 [Novus Era 30]
Sextilis 28
Location: Crag Mines

An unusual phenomenon seems to welcome the coming of the new weapons from the home worlds of Accrecia, Bellato and Cora. The moon will turn red tonight, as red as the blood that will be spilled by either mine or “that” bellato.

I will never forget the last Chip war that we had when I had that faithful encounter with “that” person. My teeth longed for blood, as I tightened my grip on my spear and poised to attack the whole bellato army on my own. If Leith weren’t there, would I achieve my revenge? Or would have I died doing that stupid assault?
The sun had just risen from the horizon. People where eating their breakfast and some are doing their morning routine. But, I was still sitting upright on my bed not moving. I couldn’t sleep well last night; it could be seen from my eyes. I tried to erase “that” person from my mind but to no avail. He would always be haunting my days from now on, unless I do something I won’t be able to move on. I will have to kill him, the person who inflicted so much sorrow in my life. I want him to die in my own hands, even if it means giving up my life.

In order to fulfill this ambition, I went straight to the weapons merchant and try to acquire a weapon which will help me achieve my mission. “Good Morning!” greeted the merchant who have just opened his shop. I didn’t answered back which made him a bit annoyed, but I didn’t care for all I want now is revenge. “I need a weapon...” I said after scanning his goods. “Well, you’ve come to the right place we have everything here from knives, swords, bows, guns, staves and spears, you name it we’ve got it!” the merchant replied with an enthusiastic tone. He first showed me a Sickle knife “This knife here is a massive knife it goes well with a shield-“. “I don’t need a knife...” I said for I’m not thinking of ever coming back. The merchant was even more annoyed, “Well how about this Spadona? With its massive blades it could kill anyone with just one slash!” The merchant tried to smile even though I knew he was annoyed. A spadona just like what my father had, but I don’t want to cower again in the memories of my past so I didn’t mind what the merchant was saying. The merchant waited for reply which he didn’t get, I just scanned my way through his goods silently, until I saw a long cylindrical weapon and recognized it was a spear. Seeing me looking intently at the Field Lance the merchant held the spear and showed it to me like the merchant that he was. “This here is a top of the line Field Lance; it has been forged with magic and talics from ores. With its long reach however far your enemy is you can still skewer their bodies.” The merchant stopped to look at my expression which was the same as I first came to his shop. Thinking that he was wasting his time he lowered the weapon and placed it unceremoniously on its stand. “I’ll buy the spear...” I said as he was just about to go to another customer.

I was not very accustomed to using a spear, it was heavy and long making it difficult to control. Unlike the Sickle Knife that I had, it was hell when trying to execute a move. After some time practicing how to wield the massive spear I was able to do a spinning move with it. The power from the spin move was powerful enough to break the land where I was standing from. “Good...” I said “but it is still not enough” discontented with the outcome I thought of other ways to increase the damage dealt by the newly acquired weapon.

It was 20:00 hours when the archon said “Cora the time is ripe, it is time to achieve our goal!” he said with flare. “Tomorrow we will be having our new weapons from our home world, and I want to give them back for giving us these new weapons. LET US WIN THE WAR!” The archon’s brief speech created shouting and crying which can be heard up to where I was.

Rocks were split in two; the geography of the area was destroyed and trees have fallen into the ground with their trunks mutilated. I tried another spin move but now using my whole body as a pivot, with my whole weight in the spin and with the length of the spear which doubled its power. The centrifugal force combined with the perpendicular force of my body shattered the boulder in front of me leaving nothing but pebble sized stones. I was contented with the outcome, and I thought of this move as a move that will end my years of sorrow. “Full Swing” my spinning spear will be the last thing that “that” bellato will ever see.

With the field lance in hand and a heart that knows neither fear nor pain, I made my way to Cora Headquarters. Like always people were rushing to get to the portal, wounded corites were brought in stretchers by the medical team, the weapons merchant was busy selling his ammunitions, and the telecom device was flooded with instructions from the archon and his council. “Warriors upfront! Casters support them with your debuffs! Rangers clear STCs!” The archon’s voice was once again in high spirits. “Cora we need you here! Answer the call of DECEM!” It was the last thing I heard before I was transported to Crag Mines.

The usual buffers were there waiting for any corite that would need their assistance. The female corite who was always casts her spell on me said some incantations and immediately I felt my feet being light. “Do your best!” she said to me with a smile, but I had already dashed my way to R18. “Cora fall back to R18 it’s to early to fight them, fallback!” as I have expected the archon will not be stupid enough to exhaust his resources on small skirmishes, after all there is still 20 minutes left before the shields of the Chips will be lowered. As I reached R18 people were now resting and patching up their wounds from their early skirmish. “Dark priests make a portal for those who are wounded, anyone who can still fight rest for a bit. We need more Corites here in R18! Remember that this war will proclaim Cora’s Ascension on Novus!” I can see the archon on his elegant Melee armors holding a shield on his left arm and a knife on the other. He was a bit tired but when he saw me and a platoon of corites in my back he had renewed strength and said “Good! It seems like we more of our brethren willing to answer DECEM’s call... We will attack them as soon as the shields are down, I want everyone to concentrate on the Accrecians, push them back to their portal. The Bellatos are a second priority, don’t attack them just yet.” But, I didn’t care I only want to kill “that” person for me that is the first and only priority.

The clock went to 00:00 and the archon shouted “Cora CHARGE!” in an instant corites were now rushing to the ACC. The accrecians were caught by surprise, as summoners summoned their Isis and debuffed anyone in sight. They tried to repel the wave but their warders were unable to take the spells thrown at them. One warder had his head blown up by an Isis, another accrecian stopped functioning as a spear pierced his core. Their defensive line now in ruins accrecians were now forced to move back to their portal. I myself had a skirmish with an accrecian he let out his bow gun only to find that I was already spinning in front of him just like what I practiced I used my body to direct a powerful smash with my whole weight in it. The accrecian’s body was completely decimated, only his arms and legs were left by the explosion made by my spear hitting his energy reserve tank. Though I felt some kind of euphoria in killing an accrecian it is still wasn’t enough to quench my thirst for blood.

“Everyone back at the ACC hit the chip as hard as you can!” The archon said through the telecom device. I summoned Isis to hit the chip and she did as though it was like last time. A fire lance shook the chip a bit but the chip still stood, a corite wielding a spadona came near and used his pressure on the chip but his attack was quickly blocked by the chip’s protective covering. Three minutes have passed but there was still no bellato to be seen, there were some accrecian resistance but it was quickly dispersed by the Arch magi of the Holy Alliance. As the archon displayed the statistics of the chip starting with 20 I felt that I wouldn’t be able to get my revenge. “20...19...18...17...16... 15-“he was cut by the army of Bellato rushing in from the right flank. “Fallback CORA! Fallback to R18!” his orders are only like a buzzing sound to me, in fact with all the chaos happening around me I could hear nothing but my own breathing. As I saw the person who have killed my family, my mind went blank and my body was now acting on its own. Isis who was still hitting the chip stopped and followed her master who was now stupidly rushing to a horde of bellato.

A bellato scout directed his arrows at me and hit my right leg, but I didn’t mind the pain. As I was in range I skewered his body and threw it off the ground. Limping I still tried to reach “that” person the scar on his face was now visible from where I was, the spear which killed my parents were in his hands. He was showing it to everyone like a trophy, boasting on how many people have died on it. “Hey! Fallback! You’re wounded you need help!” I can hear some corites shouting from my back. But, it was already too late for I was amidst the bellato army and there is no way I’m coming back. I’m just ten steps away from my prey, just ten more steps to avenge my family! A Chandra debuffed me which slowed me down; I felt that I was carrying the weight of the world. Fire spheres missed by a miniscule and the bellato have noticed me charging. With Swords and Spears up high they all focused their attention on me and Isis has braced herself for the attack. My prey also took notice of me, he might not have remembered my face; but still he knew that I will be another addition to his kills.

With a wounded leg and a heavy body, I still strived to reach him. But, when I took a step forward a spear pierced through my armor, followed by a slash by a spadona on my back. Isis too was hit by a meteor from a caster’s wand, added by the lightning which hit her immediately after the previous spell. Before I felt the pain from both hits, I took another arrow which had hit my stomach. I saw the red moon up high in the dim night as I lay there face up. I felt a crack from my pocket, but I couldn’t move my body anymore to look at it. As my vision went dark I saw a blurred figure of a woman with wings coming straight at me.
